Can I add a link to my video?

In many cases, a video will end with a "call to action," such as "contact us today" or "visit our website". Wouldn't it be great if the viewer could just click right there in the video player on the link you want them to go to?

While this is a great scenario and can be done, there are some key points to understand:

  • When you upload a video, that video is a self-contained file. Therefore you cannot "add a link" directly to the video itself.

  • This means that the link has to be part of the player that the viewer is watching it in. When your video is on YouTube or Vimeo, those sites are providing a player. When you have the video uploaded directly to your website, your web programmer will be using a custom player that is uniqely set up for your site.

Given this, there are two ways you can add a link to the end of your video.

  • You can have your web programmer create this as custom functionality in your website's player. To do this, you would simply have to contact them to see if they're able and coordinate the process through them. This can work well, especially if you have a lot of video content and need it to display and play just so.

  • You can use one of the embed customization options in Vimeo's video settings, called "Outro". This option is a great one as it allows you to add a clickable link to an external website at the end of your video.

To use the "Outro" feature, you must have upgraded to a Vimeo+ account, which costs $59.95 per year, or $9.95 per month. Once upgraded, you'll see the Outro options under the "embed" tab in your video's settings.

To add a link, click the "Show" dropdown box under "Outro" and select "A link". You will then be able to specify the exact link and text you'd like to show.

E.g. www.richter10point2.comVisit our website today! would result in this: Visit our website today!
